The topic of sex is one that draws to it a lot of negative stigma. No matter the genre, everyone has their own understanding and opinion of sex. This is no difference when talking about sexuality in a spiritual life.
From the most conservative religions to the most flexible, sex is often society driven. After years of growing up with this programming built into our brains, sex can either be a bad thing, something to be cautious of or something to abstain from. There are others, but these are the most common.
Yet sex from a Taoism perspective is a critical part of a spiritual journey. Sex and sexuality is part of life.
It can shape a culture, a person's way of thinking, a society and our complete way of life.
Without it we are lost and with it we can also be lost. Often times it is an extremely complicated thing to understand. Those that take too much interest in it are seen as bad and needing help and those who take no interest in it are seen as strange or something being wrong with them.
Every one is unique when it comes to their own sexuality. No two people are exactly a like in how they originated.
From a Tao living perspective, we are not to battle anything and that includes ourselves. So if we are battling ourselves by trying to abstain from sex or trying to fight who we are, then we are moving away from the Tao and not towards it.
When the topic of sex becomes a complicated question in a person's life, then it is important to mediate. Meditation will help a person understand where this energy should take its place. When sex naturally takes it rightful place, then it becomes that beautiful creative energy that is a part of every living being.
If a person uses sex to harm, abuse, take advantage of or cause any other kind of hurtful outcome to another human being, then this person is moving away from the Tao.
Yet if that same person is using sex to show love to someone, sharing a deeper understanding, healing or any other positive form of expression, then they are moving towards the Tao.
Today start to think about what your own sexuality means to you. Meditate on it and start to make it a part of your spiritual journey. To ignore it, is to separate yourself from your originating force.
Being aligned in all areas of your life provides a person a very deep understanding of themselves. When this happens, every life they come into and everything that comes into their life, is blessed.
