What You Should Expect To See In Most Christian Churches In Las Vegas

By Raymond Stone

Preparing an agenda for any meeting is important for it to be organized and have a sense of direction. Apart from secular gatherings, church meetings also follow some format even though it is not usually so strict as compared to what secular organizations do. Since the main owner of the gathering is Jesus, people are so mindful when it comes to church matters that the timing for activities can change depending on how the Holy Spirit leads them. Christian churches in Las Vegas also have a pattern they try to stick to during service.

Starting with an opening prayer is good although this might come after the procession in some churches. This is necessary to invite God into the church. The warden, the priests and every other instrument the Lord will use all join in the procession. However, the procession does not mean that the people who joined are more superior to others.

After the procession and prayer, the Bible readers come on stage to read from different parts of the Bible. They read the Old Testament and the New Testament too. This is different from the message which comes up much later so there is usually no form of interpretation after the reading. Some ministers use the same passages read during the lessons to form the texts for their message.

After the lessons, the band takes over. They lead the church in praises and worship so that they can be edified by the Holy Spirit. The songs are carefully selected to suit the type of service for the day. However, the Holy Spirit who knows the hearts and innermost needs of the members also use the praise team to build their faith up.

The sermon is prepared by the priest or any other person he considers sound for the task. Normally, it takes at least 30 minutes so it usually lasts longer than any other item on the order of service. Apart from the passages from the lessons which the preacher may use, he also refers to many others which he also tries to expose. This is why people going to the churches usually have their writing materials apart from the Bible.

There is a call for offerings after the message by asking the band to lead again in some choruses. This time, the people happen to be merrier as they dance up to the altar to give their offerings. Some of the offerings given include thanksgiving offering, the seed of faith, tithes, and welfare. Each one is usually collected differently.

Announcements are given thereafter. During the announcements, the priest or moderator recognizes those who are worshipping with the church for the first time. A special welcome song is rendered and the newcomers are asked to meet the follow-up or welfare coordinator for further briefing.

After everything, the recession comes last. Just like the procession, a recessional hymn is taken. The members of the church may know the hymn if it is a popular one but in case it isn't, they will be told where to find it in the hymn book the church uses. The priest then releases his last blessing after which the members begin to disperse if they have no other meeting or business to attend to.
