There are many types of therapy programs available which are led by experienced and qualified psychologists. Many people find these to be effective. However, when you mention psychotherapy, you often conjure up images of Freud walking around someone lying on a sofa who is being hypnotised. They can also get involved in cognitive behaviour therapy or DBT, depending on their needs and the situation. Their therapist will have to refer them to someone depending on what they think is best for them. There are many options available here.
