ADHD is a mental disorder that is characterized by the combination of distractibility, hyperactivity, inattentiveness and impulsivity. Their usual behaviors are their inability to concentrate, becoming disruptive or trouble getting along with others. Some are questioning if this is really a disorder or just an accumulation of intolerable behaviors.

Spreading the word about the disorder is important because of this to help other people understand and learn more. This can be done if you become an ADHD advocate to those who are suffering from this specially if you know one. This helps patients receive the support they are looking for from everyone in the communty.

You start as a student of the condition learning from other advocates and other sources regarding this. After knowing some information then you become an expert even though you do not feel like one, but you are one for those who knows less. Then you become an advocate as you educate others and getting support to those that need it.

Some basic steps are highly advisable to be followed when you like to become an effective advocate which could be helpful. First is accepting your role as one and feeling good whenever you are supporting the ones needing it and educating others regarding the condition. You would start knocking down the ignorance and stigma of people preventing them to help.

Get educated and know more about ADHD so you will have more tools at your disposal so you could effectively express your opinion. You may do this by reading books and talking to mental health professionals that are experts in this. Talking with other advocates is another way because your experiences would be shared.

Begin with the personal situation you are in by helping your son or daughter or in supporting your students, patients and clients. Doing this will help you gain momentum that can be used in trying to help others. You can start reaching out to your community like your school, workplace or neighborhood.

Recognize that each one has unique strengths which can be used in spreading your advocacy effectively. You may be good at bringing people together and talking with them or in using technology like social media or blogs where you can spread your thoughts faster and easier. These are very useful when trying to reach out to more people as an advocate.

Join others such as organizations and support groups either online, local or national with similar advocacy that you have. Working with others helps in expanding the people you can reach which you can educate and help more of them. This is also how you can develop your skills further or learn more which is very helpful.
