By Lila Bryant

Ceramics and pottery is a broad field of art that has a long history and tradition. This type of art has been practiced for many years in many parts of the world. Porcelain restoration and reconstruction is basically the activity of repairing damaged ceramic objects and crafts. This is an ancient practice that has been passed down from one generation to another since time immemorial.

The making of ceramic objects has a long history that dates back to the Stone Age periods. Using mud to make basic utensils such as cups and plates is not something new. This is something that was practiced by our ancestors and fore fathers who came before us. The technology back then had not given light to the modern equipment we have today.

Restoration is a really sophisticated and intricate process that cannot be done by just anybody out there. It needs someone who really know their way around porcelain work and who are generally conversant with the craft of reconstruction itself. This quite important in order to be able to repair something back to a state which was much better than it is.

Cracks are a major trouble to any ceramic artist and they cause a lot of damage to things like clay pots and bowls. The same cracks are known to further break down an object to the finality of disintegration. This is not a good thing at all and everything should be done to avoid this form of loss of art. Art needs to be conserved and preserved for as many years as possible.

The work that goes into making such artifacts cannot go to waste once they have been damaged. If broken artifacts were to be thrown away once they got a crack or if they broke into pieces then many people would being getting losses from this investment. This should not be the case at all and therefore a variety of ways to reconstruct damaged ceramic object have been unveiled over time.

The reconstruction schedule should be flexible enough to the drying of the wet items. The time needed for this whole activity is quite long in order to achieve the desired results and outcomes. Almost any ceramic and porcelain object can be restored to its original state if it gets damaged. The process is requires the use of similar materials to those that were used to make the subject item in the initial stage.

Restoring ceramic products should not cost as much as making the same products once again. An artist should not charge a hefty fee to reconstruct something back to its originals state. This work is not that easy to accomplish in a short duration of time but the effort is not as much as making something from scratch.

For really damaged items that have fallen down and broken into pieces, an artist has to gather up all those pieces and melt them into a wholesome mixture. The mixture is then altered to become smooth and flexible enough in order to be molded back to the exact shape and size of the original object.
