Facts To Know On SMT Reflow Ovens

By Allyson Burke

The widely used technique when it comes to mounting semi conductors would have to be the surface mount technology. Unlike the traditional through hole mounting, this technique is preferred by many since it is more convenient, cost effective and produce greater results. In fact, the favorite SMT reflow ovens have also been considered a breakthrough science in soldering technology.

Reflow ovens are actually used as electronic heating devices that mount electric components through a primary circuit board. Through surface mount technology, the complex components are easily attached to the PCB successfully. In fact, these devices may come in an infrared and convection, vapor phased or industrial oven types that work in various applications.

This heating equipment usually allows the control of temperature especially when heating the PCB and soldering electronic components. To maintain a smooth reflow, preheating the oven can actually do the trick to keep solder paste from drying faster. After which, the PCB is then heated in a temperature that is much higher than the reflow.

For those components that have an increased pins in the integrated circuit, surface mounting can be the ideal technique for that. With the demand in the changing appearance, weight and size of electronic components, a versatile method for these kinds are needed. By just simply placing these components directly to the PCB, there is no need for it to be manually put into holes.

Semi conductors have really become more complicated and that is why there is also a need to innovate new approaches. In these times, there are two major kinds of approaches when it we talk of mounting and soldering components. These are through hole and surface mounting which are primarily used by many industries these days.

The traditional through hole technology refers to the manual fitting of electronic components into holes within a circuit board. This may not be commonly uses but this can still be practice such as in large equipment. With some exemptions, these would require manual construction which is not suited for SMT.

No matter what method is used, it will always come down to whether it has greatly affect the performance of a certain device. Moreover, it is of utmost importance to assess carefully all possible factors before choosing between the two techniques. The novelty of the technology may not necessarily mean that is the best method to do.

On another note, most would really go for the SMT because it can easily handle small electronic parts compared to through hole. In fact, majority have been using this approach in all types of industries that have satisfying results. But on the other side, the traditional approach is not fully eradicated as this too comes handy when the need arises.

The sectors that primarily use mounting and soldering technologies are the manufacturing and engineering department. But for some who might need to use such methods, they just make their own SMT reflow ovens through using house appliances. These technologies may have its good and bad side and it is therefore necessary to study these points so that the best decision will be made.
